Explore Sälen’s natural wonders with the help of your own snowkite. A snowkite will let you travel anyhow and anywhere you want to on the mountainside.

Why not set off on a voyage of discovery beyond the lift system? You’ll no doubt enjoy the chance to explore gullies and other areas that are otherwise hard to reach.

Snowkiting involves using a kite attached to a harness to sail across glistening, snow-covered mountains. Power is generated in the sail as you steer the kite against the wind, driving you forward across the winter landscape. You can use either your ordinary skis or a snowboard on your feet.

Just like with sailing, you can steer the kite to go wherever you like by travelling either against or with the wind. You can also stop and park your kite at any time, which will stop the propulsion.

Why not search out a gully where you and your friends can have fun kiting together all day long? Your kite will give you the power to go wherever you like. It makes no difference whether it’s a 45-degree incline or somewhere miles away that you’ve set your sights on. Your kite will take you there without problem! All you have to do is to sit back and enjoy the ride.

Cruising across the mountainside powered by a snowkite is a fabulous experience that defies description. You simply must experience it for yourself!

Learn to snowkite

Snowkiting is very easy to learn and very easy to do. All you need to be able to do to learn snowkiting is to ski or snowboard down a “blue” ski run with an average slope. Simple!

For your convenience, we partner with Sälens kiteschool AB which holds training courses daily throughout the winter season. Taking a course will get you up and running as a snowkiter both quickly and safely.

Besides your ordinary skiing or snowboarding equipment, you will need a harness and a kite to travel by snowkite. Most experienced kiters have two kites – one large kite for light wind conditions (2-7 m/sec.) and one small kite for strong wind conditions (7-20 m/sec.). Our kites are fitted with a reliable safety system that allows you to quickly and easily depower your kite, if necessary.

Sälens Kiteschools trained instructors provide easy-to-follow guidance tailored to suit your individual needs. They use market-leading equipment during their courses that is always in top condition to make sure you get the very best out of your training.

Sälen’s mountain plateau is one of the best locations for snowkiting. We can hold courses here for about 90 per cent of the winter season. There’s so much good terrain above the tree line that you can kite somewhere new everyday all season long, if you like!
