Environmental sustainability

We’re proud to announce that our resort holds a Nordic Swan Ecolabel certification and that we’ve also received a certification as a Sustainable Destination. This means that we fully satisfy the environmental requirements imposed on Nordic Swan Ecolabel-certified facilities.

Some examples of Högis’ efforts to help the environment:

  • Eco-labelled cleaning products

  • Eco-labelled dishwashing and laundry detergents

  • Reduced consumption of disposable packaging

  • Increased recycling of tea light holders, etc.

  • Using locally-produced primary produce as much as possible

  • All new light bulbs installed in existing lamps are LED lamps

  • We strive to ensure that any chemicals we use are classified to show their effect on people, animals and the environment. Högis constantly works to reduce its use of hazardous chemicals.

  • Composting machine

  • Newly-built recycling station

  • A commitment to the green ideal of zero waste in connection with food preparation.

“For Högis’ kitchen staff, zero waste means creating something out of ‘nothing’ and re-presenting it to our guests in a way that upholds the traditions and principles of fine dining. Our aim is to keep applying and further developing both the zero-waste concept and a sustainable approach to gastronomy.”
— Daniel Skoglund, Head Chef, Sälens Högfjällshotell

Sustainable Destination: This certification is based on the World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) ten principles for developing a sustainable tourist destination and serves as a tool for systematising sustainability efforts for the destination as a whole. The certification requires that the destination preserves and protects nature, culture and the environment, promotes social values and works to achieve economic sustainability.
